Nokdu Episode 5 Recap

The men are given robe to cover themselves as they are escort to the temple by the Muwol Corps ladies. As it turns out, the temple holds the secret meeting for Minister Heo along with a few other ministers. But before they could discuss their meeting, they hear the whistle that Ssook had made earlier when chasing Nok-du. Minister Heo tells the rest of the minister that he will go check on the situation which takes us back to the scene that Ssook is searching room for room.

They all freeze when they hear the loud groan coming from one of the rooms. Nok-du tries his girly voice causing Dong-joo to scoff in disbelief at him so he goes back to his normal guy voice, trying to explain to her. He covers her mouth and whisper into her ear, making her look surprise as Ssook and Co. heads over to their room. Ssook pulls out her dagger and fling the door open to see Dong-joo sitting with Nok-du, his back facing them.

Lady Cheon looks in to see them and question what Dong-joo is doing in the room. Dong-joo say that she was trying to get her hair fix which Nok-du with smear lipstick on, admits and say that Dong-joo was trying to make him pretty (hence the lipstick). Ssook question them about hearing a man’s voice in the room. Nok-du tap Dong-joo’s cut ear, signaling her for help. Dong-joo let out a deep groan which Nok-du tells them he had cut her ear by accident while using the scissor. Nok-du excuses the two of them to go apply ointment on her ear, hiding his face from Minister Heo as he walks out with Dong-joo.

Outside with no one around, Dong-joo grab his collar and drag him away to the side, holding him up to the wall. A flashback shows us what he had whisper to her in the room when he covers her mouth, reminding her that he had once saved her in Hanyang and if he should let Lady Cheon knows what she did.

Back to the present, holding onto his collar, Dong-joo question if he had followed her back from Hanyang which he denies, telling her their path just happen to overlap. He tells her he was just as surprise to see gentleman’s clothes in her room that he had seen before. Dong-joo calls him out for lying when he tells her before he didn’t look through her things. He denies it and said he saw it by accident. She looks as if she’s about to hit him however throw her arm over him (as though they’re buddies) when they notice a few gisaeng heading out of a room.

In the palace, the King ask his guard if he had checked the vicinity around the island which the guard said they did but couldn’t find the whereabout of Yoon-jeo. The guard inform the King of a place inhabit with women only when he notices his younger brother walking by with his dog in his arm along with his mother. There is fear as the Prince’s mother shield him from the King. The King gives an ominously warned to the young Prince about catching a cold, scarring him as his mother hurries him away.

Minister Heo joins the other minister back at the temple, discussing the King’s fear of the Royal Prince (being overthrown) therefore he has been getting rid of people around the Royal Prince, charging them with treason and any of them could be next. Minister Heo tells them they could not wait any longer and must move forward with their plan.

In their room, Dong-joo points the scissor at Nok-du as she re-affirmed his explanation for being in the village was to meet up with the lady he loves and promise to leave in a few days when his lady love comes. Dong-joo grumbles that she couldn’t believe she wanted to call the vulgar him “Unnie”. Nok-du tells her that she shouldn’t call him vulgar since he did take good care of her, making Dong-joo recalls the time he scratches her back for her. She hits him until he reminds her that she touches him as well, making her remember. He tells her that it just be more uncomfortable if they talk about it so they should just not argue and bear with each other for a few days. He suggests sleeping outside but she grabs the scissor and stop him, telling him that he is not leaving her sight hence Nok-du sleeps in the room while Dong-joo spend the night outside in the hallway, guarding the door so he can’t leave her sight.

Hearing Dong-joo snores, he tries to sneak out of the room only to have her startle him from behind as she presses the scissor in between his legs. She makes snipping movement with the scissor as though she would turn him into a eunuch, scaring him back into the room (LOL). Later he pokes a hold through the door to peek and see if she is asleep only to have Dong-joo poke him in the eye.

She tells him that she is going to be guarding the door all night long only to be fall asleep (HAHA, so much for guarding the door all night long) and find Nok-du missing in the morning. Nok-du visit the temple in the morning, wondering what those people were plotting and why they would harm his family. He muses that the one who gave the order knows while the rest don’t know anything at all, deciding that in order for him to get his answer, he would have to get close to the Muwol Corps women.

Nok-du joins the gossiping gisaeng to get information from them, that Lady Cheon will be passing out sketches of the intruder to them all when Dong-joo finds him, dragging him back with her. She pushes him into the room, yelling at him that she told him not to go anywhere. Nok-du looks surprise at the breakfast tray with the seaweed soup. Dong-joo asks if it is his birthday which he admit that the only thing his father ever told him about himself is his birthday. He asks if she isn’t going to eat her seaweed soup. Dong-joo confess that she dislikes seaweed soup but before Nok-du could reach for her bowl, she grabs it and drink the soup. She tells him that she may dislike it but not enough to let him have it (LOL).

She accuses him of being a pervert for flirting with the gisaeng and if his lady knows about it which he denies that he isn’t. The two bickers about it until a young gisaeng in training comes to get Dong-joo for dance practice. Before going, she trims her hair and when Nok-du offer to help her since he’s good at cutting hair, she turns and give him a death glare (LOL). She makes him go with her to dance practice, set on keeping watch of him.

Nok-du watches and laugh in enjoyment, seeing how uncoordinated Dong-joo compare to the other trainee. (She is seriously really bad, lol). Seeing how bad she is, Lady Cheon calls for a stop as she goes down to teach Dong-joo properly, giving Nok-du a chance to slip away from her sight. He sneaks a peek at the door to see one of the gisaeng hold a sketch of the intruder. Needing to see how to divert the situation, he comes up with an idea.

As Ssook is instructing her ladies on where to patrol, a few widow rushes pass them, gossiping that the intruder is caught. Most of the widows gather artound Nok-du as he shows them the gash on his hand, demanding him to give them a full detail of what happen. Nok-du gives them the detail of the confrontation, explaining during the struggle, he got slash on the hand and the intruder got slash across one of his eyes. Deul-re shows him the sketch of the Nok-du to confirm that is the intruder but he tells them that the robe is a darker indigo, wearing a gat (bamboo hat) and ask for some ink.

Dong-joo looks around after practice, annoyed that he slips away. But she let it slide since she wants to go visit her secret hideout.

Back at the widow’s gathering, Nok-du use the ink to tweek the sketches to show a slash across one of the eyes. Soon-nyeo takes the sketches and tell her other two ladies that they will go to nearby village to search for the intruder. The Muwol ladies intended to go as well however the Virtuous ladies stop them from going, saying it is dangerous. (Lady, I am sure they can handle it way better with their skills. LOL) Soon-nyeo tells Nok-du that he can be a part of their group and they can discuss it when the ladies return.

Nok-du walks with the Muwol ladies as Yeon-hoon question how he could fight against a man. Nok-du tells them that his family are strong people, so he was raised playing with swords instead of needles. He questions where the ladies are heading. Yeon-hoon almost blurt out that they were going to catch the intruder but Ssook interject and tells him that they are going to go get woods. Nok-du offers to help them collect woods since he is good with the axe, forcing the others to change plan.

Nok-du chomps down a tree, impressing the ladies. He tells the ladies that the tree is sturdier over the other side so he will go over there and chomp some. However, it seems that was just a cover for him to eavesdrop on them. Yeon-hoon suggest converting him into their room since they need more people but the other say that being strong won’t work. Ssook tells them to focus on tomorrow’s task.

Nok-du walks away, mumbling to himself as to how he cannot go tomorrow when they’re up to something. He takes a swing of the axe on the tree but with the strength, the back of his jeogori (upper garment of the hanbok) to split, showing his masculine back (oh, I like). He tries to look at the split, spinning only to step on his skirt, causing the skirt to fall, showing his ripped abs. (oh, I like it even more). Panicking, he picks up the skirt to cover his abs and runs off. Ssook tells them that it’s enough woods and she would find Nok-du so they can head back.

Dong-joo leaves her secret cave as Nok-du runs madly trying to hide from his mishap as Ssook calls for him. Dong-joo walks by to see him desperately trying to cover/bury himself with the dead leaves on the ground. (HAHA). Dong-joo accuse him of showing her his pervert self, asking why he took off his clothes. He denies it trying to explain about him cutting woods but stop and ask her to take off her jeogori (her upper garment) for him to borrow causing her to whack him with her fan. He begs her desperately to help him this once. Taking advantage of the situation, Dong-joo makes him called her “Noonim” which he immediately gets on his knees and do so causing Dong-joo to break up laughing at his desperation. (HA, when you’re desperate, you’re desperate and Dong-joo is having so much fun with it).

They suddenly hear Ssook voice calling for Nok-du. She grabs his hand and run off, jumping into the water. They notice they’re still holding hand in the water and let go before re-surfacing as the Mulwol ladies arrives, wondering what they are doing. Dong-joo tells them that she came to practice dancing, but it got hot, so she has Nok-du join her for a bath. The ladies tell them to take their time and enjoy while they head back first.

Dong-joo and Nok-du sit on the rock to dry up (and boy, I like what I am seeing LOL). He offers her his robe to cover him but Dong-joo tell him to cover up instead since she doesn’t want to see him shirtless (girl, you and I need to talk). Nok-du asks if she truly came to practice and tells her that she need plenty of practice causing her to throw her fan at him in annoyance. He wonders if the dance is that hard to do so which Dong-joo argue it is. She challenges him, telling him that if he can do even one move right, then she would be his daughter. He accepts her challenge and does the dance beautifully (And lord, he’s so sexy. Totally squealing with his side glance smirk. PD-nim truly knows what we liked).

She wonders if he had learned the dance somewhere else, but he tells her he learned it from watch them practice today for the first time. He asks if it isn’t like that for everyone (learning it right away) causing her to mumble in annoyance, “I didn’t like him anyway, but now I really don’t like him at all.” Nok-du offers to teach her the dance which makes them consciously aware of each other due to their proximity. Dong-joo slip around but loses her balance, slipping but luckily Nok-du catches her, their eyes lock. (It’s the start of a blossoming love).

Nokdu Episode 4 Recap

Nok-du bandage Dong-joo burn hand, wondering why the widow was so angry about him being honest with her since the widow claim that she didn’t look like Hwa-soo. Dong-joo question if he had any friends and suggest teaching him flattery to deal with those situations. She demonstrates how he should react to the situation while he feeds her.

Afterward, Dong-joo asks him to help her undress for bed which he tells her not to do at random place, confusing Dong-joo to why it is a random place when it’s their room. Nok-du utterly refused to help her undress. He put down the blanket and toss a pillow at her, throwing back at her what she had originally said to him about how she dislikes demanding people and that people should know how to take care of themselves. Dong-joo snaps that she won’t ask him for help anymore.

Nok-du leaves to bring the dishes out only to return to see Dong-joo standing by the dresser, trying to scratch her back with the edges of the dresser since she couldn’t do so with her hand. Nok-du pulls her down to sit, scratching her back for her. But he eventually stopped when she asks him to scratch lower for her. He takes his bedding and lay down with his back to her, making her wonder why he stopped while he places his hand up to his beating chest.

Dong-joo wakes up from her sleep, having trouble sleeping due to her burned hand to see the burnt part of Nok-du dress as he sleeps on his stomach, remembering that he did get burn as well. She calls Nok-du, trying to wake him up but to no avail. Dong-joo scoot over a bit to lift up the skirt, wanting to the pant down to apply medicine to his burnt butt. But as she reaches for the pant, Nok-du wakes up shocked and pushes her away. She tries to explain to him that she wanted to apply medicine to him, but he yelps at her behavior towards “another woman” causing Dong-joo to scoff at his ridiculousness.

Elsewhere, the King is playing janggi with Minister Heo who asks if he is still having trouble falling asleep at night since the King doesn’t want to return to the palace. The King mention that Yoon-jeo being good at janggi causing Minister Heo to pause. He re-affirmed with Minister Heo that Yoon-jeo was killed by his sword after he had buried the baby. The King dismiss his question as useless, claiming that there is no way it would be a lied or that Minister Heo would fool him on it. (That’s an underlying threat, isn’t it? He is suspicious).

The King decided it is time to rest from the game. The King lies down to rest as Minister Heo slowly moves his hand over above the King as though he wanted to strangle him but instead, pulls up the blanket to cover the King up. As Minister Heo leaves the room, the King open his eyes. (Damn, he was definitely testing Minister Heo and is suspecting him for sure. Some friends’ you guys are. Ya’ll have some serious trust issue here you guys need to work on, lol). The King leaves, telling him guard to search further for Yoon-jeo, believing that the minister that saw Yoon-jeo definitely had not mistaken.

In the morning, Nok-du is practicing his flattery when Deul-ri (the Muwoldan that tries to assassin Nok-du in the beginning) arrives, politely greeting each other before Nok-du leaves. Deul-ri pulls out the drawing of Nok-du, finding him suspicious and decided to follow suit. Sensing her follow, Nok-du tries to walk off quickly but she calls after him, causing him to stop in his track. Just as she approaches, Mr. Admin calls out to Nok-du, having hear about his burn.

Mr. Admin gives him ointment and being aware that Deul-ri is watching, Nok-du grabs Mr. Admin hand to make it look like they’re flirting, thanking him for the ointment. He pulls his hand away the moment Deul-ri leaves. Mr. Admin asks where he is hurt so he can apply the ointment on for him. Nok-du sticks his butt out causing Mr. Admin to say he can’t there. Seeing his nosebleed, Nok-du chastise him for his dirty thought. Nok-du snatch the ointment from him and walk away as Mr. Admin denies it. (Mr. Admin and his hardcore one-side crush on Nok-du is so hilarious)

Nok-du return back to watch Deul-ri enter the storehouse, telling himself that it is better to stay out of her sight, knowing that she is suspicious of him. He watches when he notices Dong-joo carrying a basket of clothes with her burn hand. Dong-joo unwrap her bandage and is about to do the laundry when Nok-du clasp her shoulder, slightly pushing her back from the water. He grabs the clothes and insist on washing it instead so that her wound doesn’t get worse or get an infection. (Aw, he cares!) Dong-joo place a set of cloth under him when he hissed at her to not approach his butt, but she explains that it to help his injured butt from infection as well.

Dong-joo tells him that for being a noblewoman, he’s quite good at laundry. Nok-du refute that he is only helping her this time but Dong-joo rebuke him, telling him that she feels like he’ll continue to help her the next time as well.

Afterward, he applies the ointment Mr. Admin gave him on Dong-joo hand. Dong-joo tells him that it doesn’t feel bad at all, having someone taking care of her since it makes her think of her past. The two discuss about their mom which Nok-du tells her that he is envious that she has many good memories with her mom but Dong-joo refute him, telling him it is painful because of the memories. Dong-joo ask him about his mother which he recalls her being very sick. In her sick state, she had apologized to him for the way they are living. She says that his name is not Hwang-tae ae but Jung… She started wheezing and gasping for air as Nok-du calls out in panic to his brother. His mother suddenly grabs his collar, blaming him for their circumstance, saying if it weren’t because of him, her son and her family would’ve… But before she could say further, his mother pass away. (Hm, interesting. Since she is in and out of subconsciousness, I wonder if she thinks Nok-du was his brother earlier and wanted to tell him his family name. It sounds possible that while they are on the run, they had taken a different family name (of Lee) instead of Jung (their father’s family name?) And it seemed like they’re hinting that Nok-du could possibly be the baby that the King had try to smolder when he was born. But that’s just me guessing).

Dong-joo offers to apply the medicine on his butt causing Nok-du to jump from his spot. Dong-joo grab his skirt and ask him seriously if she can call him “Unni” looking up at him with her pleading eyes, making him enthrall by her. (So totally see him blushing, he’s lovestruck LOL). She asks again if she can, but he mumbles that he isn’t a “Unni” since he technically isn’t a girl. Dong-joo thinks he meant that he might be younger than her. Nok-du recalls her telling him she was older but now that he tells him when was born, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Nok-du picks up his robe and leaves her there. Back in the village and feeling fluster, he questions if she notices him blushing or why she would ask him that question until he sees the women running off here and there, scared. Nok-du follows Bok-nyeo who pulls him into hiding with her. Peeking out, Nok-du sees a woman in red, ringing chimes accompanying by two other women in white with a veil covering their faces. Bok-nyeo informed him that the shaman is here to comfort the dead soul that has passed away wrongfully, and it would be big trouble if he roams around while the shaman is doing her praying.

Nok-du follow the women to the temple and hides when more people head up to the temple, with robes over them. Nok-du notices there are men under the robes and wanted to take a closer look but his foot slip, letting out a sound alerting all the women standing guards up at the temple. They shoot arrows towards his direction but luckily, he dodges them all, undetected. He throws a rock to divert them in the opposite direction however Ssook got a glimpse of his figure running back to the village. She whistle for her assassin while she gives chase back into the village.

At the courtesan house, Dong-joo is cleaning the floor when her friend, Hwa-soo, came over, telling her that her a drunk man spilled alcohol on her. Dong-joo tells her to go clean up while she go to get her another dress.

Nok-du runs hurriedly back into the courtesan house and hides his black cloak under a porch just as Ssook catches up. He runs into a room he assumed is empty only to crash into Dong-joo, causing the two to land on the floor. Lady Cheon tells Ssook to look quietly as to not disturb the guest. Dong-joo question why Nok-du is here which he sees a scissor and suggest fixing her uneven hair for her.

The assassin that Ssook whistle for has surrounded the courtesan house. Minister Heo enters and ask Lady Cheon if that “man” is here which she inform that she believes he is.

Nok-du trims Dong-joo hair however his eyes were looking at the door, resulting in cutting one side of her hair too short. (If the Muwoldan don’t kill him, Dong-joo would sure kill him for cutting her hair like that, lol). Gasping, he tries to trim the other side of her hair to even both sides out making it shorter (LOL) as she tells him to make sure to even it for her. She asks why he is going to such length. He responded that it’s her precious hair which Dong-joo opening her eyes, refuting him since he refuse to let her called him “Unni.”

Looking closely at him, she notice something (the stubbles) on Nok-du’s chin and goes to touch it but Nok-du jerk back, startled and accidentally cut her ear with the sisscor in the process. She tries to grab the mirror to see the cut on her hair which Nok-du snatches quickly for her, telling her she can’t (not wanting her to see her short hair). Dong-joo find him being strange and demand for the mirror which he hides behind his back. The two slap fight each other (LOL) until Dong-joo pushes him, causing him to fall back on the floor. Dong-joo tries to stand up and step on her dress, causing her to fall. The look of horror on Nok-du’s faces say it all as Dong-joo falls, her hand landing directly on Nok-du’s gem. (LOL, the sound affects are funny).

In pain, Nok-du let out a very loud manly groan that is overheard out in the hall by Ssok, Lady Cheon, and Minister Heo. Dong-joo removes her hand and sit ups as Nok-du curl beside her in pain. She looks at her hand, seems to figure it out as Nok-du sits up. She reaches for his chin and is shocked to feel his stubble. She picks the scissor up beside her, pointing it directly at Nok-du. Nok-du tries to fake his girly-ness but Dong-joo doesn’t seemed to be fool, still pointing the scissor at him.

Nokdu Episode 3 Recap

The episode continues where we left off. Nok-du resurface from the water and quick pull his clothes back to cover his shoulder. He looks at the women who gapes in shock as Soon-nyeo grabs a rock from the water and throw it towards Nok-du only for it to fly over him and hit Mr. Admin in the head.

The women get out of the water and the Virtuous trio rush over, beating up the man only to realize it is Mr. Admin who has been drinking. He explains he only drink because he has finally met his fairy and ask Nok-du for the fairy robe (a reference to the Korean folktale – fairy and woodcutter story), making Nok-du almost about to punch him but Soon-nyeo got to it first, knocking Mr. Admin out cold. She tells them that he doesn’t remember whenever he is drunk therefore all agree to stick to the story that they had found him in the mountain.

Heading back to the village, Mal-nyeon keep giving Nok-du side glance saying she knows the reason for Nok-du refusal in bathing, startling Nok-du into thinking she knows his secret. However, she was referring to his flat chest, telling him not to be insecure that they’re small. (HAHA, I would love them to have more lady talk with Nok-du, just imagining the awkwardness since he’s a guy, LOL)

Minister Heo gets a report about Nok-du faking his death and suspect that he fakes his death to track Muwoldan (Muwol Corps (for short) the Widow’s assassin group) and must already be at the Widow Village, either hiding at the courtesan house or somewhere nearby. He tells his informant to have them look for him thoroughly in the village as well to have the Muwol Corps find his father and brother. Minister Heo wonders why he suddenly up again after all these times.

He recalled a minister telling him that he saw Jung Yoon-jeo (Nok-du’s father). Shocked, Minister Heo claimed that Yoon-jeo had died during the uprising but the minister claimed that it is him. Minister Heo tries to brush him off that he is just mistaken and advise him not to go around saying such things that would get him in trouble. However the minister informed him that he had already told the King who seemed please to hear about it, shocking Minister Heo.

On the boat, Nok-du’s father and brother are en route with his master and Aeng-du to his master’s hometown. His father wants to go to Hanyang once they are ashore however Hwang-tae (his brother) rejects the idea, telling him he would be in danger as they would be looking for him. His father recalls his mistake for not being careful enough when he went in land to find medicine resulting being spotted by the minister. But his father still wants to go find Nok-du which Hwang-tae question if the truth would still be buried even if he were to find Nok-du? His father does not answer and goes to thank Nok-du’s master for his help.

A guard report back to the King that he could not find Nok-du’s father and that the minister might had mistaken. The King says disappointingly with grim expression that he was looking forward to seeing this friend of his whom he thought he had lost during the uprising. (Ugh, it seems that both Minister Heo and the King are set in searching for Nok-du’s father, but I cannot tell who is friend and who is foes. Both men seem to want to kill him for sure. The King doesn’t seem like he is a kind King, but he does look pretty good looking, LOL).

In their room, Dong-joo question if he was going to sleep in his wet clothes. Nok-du asks if she can give him something to wipe himself off with, for spare clothes, privacy, and warm water, irritating Dong-joo who slammed the door shut on him as she leaves.

Wrapping himself in the blanket after changing, Nokdu spit out his drink at Dong-joo as she undresses for bed.  Nokdu tell her that she should warned him so he can prepare myself whenever she does this kind of behavior which Dong-joo snap back at him that it is her room. Nok-du counters that it is Lady Cheon’s room.

Frustrated, Dong-joo lay down and tell him that he can sleep outside if he dislikes her so much. Nok-du tells her that sleeping outside would make get the lip paralyzing, recalling his memories of laying outside on the beach when his brother come finds him to go home since their mother would be worried. He wonders why they got upset since he wasn’t running away to a different island but only got on the fishing boat because Hwang-tae was sick. Hwang-tae tells him that their father is someone who doesn’t get upset for no reason and ask if he is giving up his dream of being a general. The two brothers playfully jokes about their lip paralyzing, staying a bit longer at the beach. (Aw, I love their brotherly bond and hope that it remains stronger. Don’t want it to fall apart and Nok-du gets the blame if anything were to happen to their father.)

Elsewhere in the village, four women (Ssook, Yeon-hoon, Deul-re, and Jung-sook) are meeting in a room over a note about Nok-du fake death. These ladies are part of the Muwol Corps as Deul-re (the assassin that Nok-du followed back to the village) claimed that she saw him collapse and died from the poison. Ssook (who seem to be the one in charge among them) mention that a man was kicked out of the village which the other counter it was the same day that she had returned. Deul-re wanted to go find him but Ssook stop her, informing her that they are all involve in searching for him now per order.

Nok-du sneak off in the middle of the night (oh, it never gets old seeing a shirtless Nok-du), into the assassin’s room, looking for clues when he comes upon the outfit the Muwol Corps wears.

In the wood, the Muwol Corps are having a meeting about their mission as one of the them question why they were ordered to kill someone who’s not an aristocrat or a government official and who order it. Ssook tells them that only their leader knows the reason why. Nok-du wonders who their leader is as he eavesdrop on them, dressed in Muwol Corps outfit.

The ladies are being told that one of the men had tracked them to the village and they need to be on guard and pay extra attention at the village and at the courtesan house as he could be hiding there. They pass out the flyer with Nok-du’s face to memorize causing Nok-du to cover his face up as he continues eavesdropping on them.

Ssook let the other three finish the meetings with the groups while she leaves to go see their leader. Nok-du follows her but is caught as she holds the sword to his neck, trying to lift his mask with her sword to see who he is but Nok-du dodge her and escape.

Nok-du return back to the village in his female clothes and got startled for a moment when Yeon-hoon clasp his shoulder, only to take a leaf from his shirt collar. She questions why he is out so late which eh explain that he went for a walk since it was so noisy in the room because of Dong-joo sleeping habit. Yeon-hoon tells him that her drinking habit are no better. Nok-du excuses himself however Deul-re watches on as he leaves, finding him suspicious.

The next morning, Yul-moo is sitting in the yard with the gisaeng and Hwa-soo (Dong-joo gisaeng friend) filled him in about the rumor of the man showing up at the village and the widows are trying to catch him. Nok-du walk over to the group when a messenger bump into Nok-du, rushing to deliver a block of ice to Yul-moo. The messenger draws his sword to slice the block of ice while Nok-du looks on, asking Hwa-soo who he is, thinking he is a royal messenger. She informed him he is Joseon foremost … pushover, Yul-moo loyal friend.

Once the ice is slice, the messenger dismiss himself as Yul-moo begin shaving the ice away, making bingsu, smiling as he looks at the direction of Dong-joo’s room. Once Dong-joo comes out of her room awake, he approaches and offer her a spoon of the bingsu only to be slightly startle, seeing Nok-du appearing with his mouth open as he leans closer and closer to the spoon.

Dong-joo pushes the spoon into Nok-du mouth and runs off. Yul-moo watches her run off and recall a memory of their childhood of him running and peaking at her from over the wall as she makes something while eating chunk of ice. He had wish that she could have try his bingsu only to be startle seeing Nok-du finishing the entire bingsu. (LOL)

Dong-joo goes to her secret cave that holds her plan layout and weapons, complaining about her plan being foiled by Nok-du and thinks that the only way left is to enter the palace.

At the village, Nok-du enters into a building where some of the widows are working different jobs, concluding that the only way to get his answer is to go into the “tiger’s den.”  A widow comes charging in, telling Ssook and the other 3 Muwol Corps ladies about a man grabbing her hand as he thought she was Hwa-soo. She asks the ladies if they think she looks like Hwa-soon, the prettiest gisaeng at the village, causing Ssook to stop on her track, astounded.

The camera pane to show the widow being nowhere near Hwa-soo beauty. Deul-ri and Ssook tell her nicely that she is pretty to stop her from bragging further however Yeon-hoon did not take the hint and call them out on being blind only to have the other lady Jung-sook placing a finger on her lip to stop her.

Nok-du interject, telling the widow that she looks nothing like Hwa-soo, pointing out their difference like Hwa-soo face feature are like crescent moon but the widow is wide and flabby. The more he tries to point their difference, the more it ends up sounding insult angering the widow. The widow retort to calling him a drowning weasel causing Dong-joo to burst up laughing as she overhears their conversation. The widow grabs Nok-du hair, yanking him around angrily at him. Dong-joo tries to intervene between them but the widow shoves her to the side causing her to burn her hand on top of the stove. The other ladies tries to intervene and push Nok-du and the other widow away causing Nok-du to burn his butt in the process. (omg, it look like all hell break loose with him and Dong-joo jumping and flapping from their burns, haha! Definitely teach him about how scary woman can be. Nok-du needs to learn the art of how to properly talk to woman for sure, lol)

Elsewhere, Yoon-jeo (Nok-du’s father) wakes up and stand outside the porch, watching the pouring rain. The scene intertwines with Minister Heo doing the same at his house, who recalls that the rain was pouring just like the day Yoon-jeo supposedly died. We flashback to the past, Minister Heo and Yoon-jeo standing up on a cliff in the pouring rain, Yoon-jeo holding onto a baby (presumably the baby that the King had smolder in his dream). Seeing that Minister Heo lifting his sword up ready to strike, Yoon-jeo turn around to shield the “dead baby” when the baby cries echo in the rain surprising them both. Minister Heo put down his sword and tell Yoon-jeo to go, claiming that he will tell others that Yoon-jeo had fallen down the cliff after he had killed him with his sword. He tells Yoon-jeo to live as though he is dead (live like he doesn’t exist). Back to the present, the scene intercut between Yoon-jeo, Minister Heo, and the King. The episode ends with the King storm out of his chamber, saying he needs to go see Minister Heo. (Interesting, I wonder what is up with these three and who the baby is.)

Nokdu Episode 2 Recap

Nok-du follows the assassin into the morning and turn away when the assassin changes out of her assassin outfit into a simple hanbok before she enters the mountain which seem to be the entrance to a village occupy by all women (which we come to know as the Widow’s Village).

Nok-du appearance in the village startles all the women when he gets attack by three woman (Soon-nyeo, Bok-nyeo, and Mal-nyeon) who beat him up, accusing him of being up to no good in the widow only place. A beaten up Nok-du stood outside the entrance to finally see the sign “Widow’s Village, Off-Limits.” (My poor baby! How could they hurt him like that, lol)

Contemplating outside, Nok-du overhears a group of men discussing about catching the runaway widow on this only route to the widow’s village. Night falls and we see the runaway widow running through the forest with men giving chase after her.  She falls onto the ground to see a pair of feet appears before her, which turns out to be Nok-du offering to help her. He carries her into a safe hiding spot before he gets attack by a peasant. He kicks him down to the ground and question who he is when the widow pushes Nok-du aside. Turns out that the peasant is her lover.

They apologize to Nok-du for the misunderstand which he tells them that her father in law is waiting for them outside of the Widow’s Village until Nok-du informed them there may be a way for them so the widow would not have to go to the widow’s village where her lover would never get to see her.

Morning comes as the father in law along with his men waits to intercept the widow. Seeing the woman covering herself in a pink cloak walking up, the men all surround her. The father in law tries to grab the cloak away but she slapped his hand away, causing the father in law to slap himself in the face, resulting in a bloody nose (LOL). Angry, he pulls the cloak forcefully off to reveal Nok-du in woman’s disguise. (Oh my goodness, why are you so pretty!). The men apologize and let him go on his way, complimenting on his pretty. (For real, tell me about it. He…no…she is so pretty!).

Walking towards the village, he thinks back to the night before where he had second thought about it and suggest finding another way but the couple refuted him, telling him how pretty he is however he should work on his voice and his walk. To thank him for helping them, the widow gave him a golden frog figurine which he gladly accepts.

He gets startle when Mal-nyeon, one of the women (who beat him up earlier) tap him on the shoulder as he peaks into the village. He explains to her that her is from the Kim family in Hanyang, who was informed that this place gives protection to widow. The woman escorts him into the village, explaining to him the history of the Widow’s Village and that the only two way into the village is the main entrance and through the courtesan house.

The other two ladies, Soon-nyeo and Bok-nyeo, join them with one carrying a man over her shoulder. The trio women call themselves “Yeolnyeodan (virtuous woman gang)” who mission is to catch all the men that sneak into the village. The ladies introduce Nok-du (who is under the pretense of Lady Kim) to Lady Cheon Hae-soo, in charge of the courtesan house, explaining the give and take relationship between the widow and the courtesan – one makes wine and clothing for the courtesan and in return, Lady Cheon look after the village.

Lady Cheon tells them to let Nok-du rest and suggest he should stay with one of the trio which he refuse with the excuse of not wanting to make the lady feel uncomfortable and ask Lady Cheon to let him stay at the courtesan house instead which she agree to let him share a room with Dong-joo.

Their conversation get interrupt from one of the girl’s cry as she is being dragged by one of the lord/noblemen who wants to take the girl home with him. Dong-joo confront him that the girl is not a formal courtesan yet as she is only twelve years old.

Lady Cheon reminded him of the law that he must wait 3-4 years for when the girl gets older. The nobleman pulls on a knife and grab the girl, wanting to cut her braid, insisting so that other men would not have her while he waits. He then points his knife at Lady Cheon asking if she want to sacrifice her hair.

Irritated, Dong-joo grab the knife from him, telling him if it is hair he wants, then he can have her. She say how important can hair be given that it can grow back in time compare to a little girl. She looks at him defiantly and cut her own braid as Nok-du look on.

A breeze blows at them and the two glances at each other, their eyes met briefly. (Man, they’re so pretty and Nok-du seem like he’s lovestruck, LOL). Angry, the nobleman orders his servant to teach her a lesson however they are interrupted by Yul-moo, Dong-joo childhood friend and chef. He approaches them and stand protectively in front of Dong-joo, acting understanding to the nobleman as the nobleman rages.

He put a pill into the nobleman mouth, claiming it is a evodia fruit that help calms the nerve. The nobleman complains of the bitterness and wants water which Yul-moo offers him a bottle that turns out to be vinegar. He claims that mixing the two together would make it poisonous which in panic, the servant carries his master away.

Lady Cheon apologized to Nok-du for the commotion and point to where his room is before telling Dong-joo to follow her. Nok-du watches the two walks away and wonder where he had met Dong-joo before. He hears a sound and turn around to see another nobleman beside him (who we come to know as Yeon-geun, the administrator of the Widow’s Village but I like calling him Mr. Admin instead). With one look at Nok-du and Mr. Admin seem to be smitten as Nok-du walk away. (Can we really blame him for being smitten. I mean, look at how pretty Nok-du is, lol).

Nok-du goes and sit inside Dong-joo’s room, wondering how to find what he’s seeking for, knowing fully that no one in the village would tell him what he seeks. He sighs seeing his reflection until he notice a sack laying underneath the dresser.

In Lady Cheon’s room, she reprimands Dong-joo for cutting her hair which Dong-joo counter that it hasn’t been long when he took one of the girls and sent her back to them dead. She gets rattle just talking about that nobleman before Lady Cheon dismiss her.

Yul-moo waits for her outside which Dong-joo tells him not to get involved again. He counters that he couldn’t do that especially when she leaves a will and disappear. He pulls out her will and tell her how worry he is. Dong-joo reminded him of his promises to not get involved and she warned him that she would leave the place if he keeps doing so. (Aw, I feel like I’m going to be sad for this heartbroken puppy in the long run).

Dong-joo return to her room and pushes Nok-du away when she sees him with her sack. (LOL, that just like payback when he pushes her down after they were free). She sees him holding a small pouch by his chest and wrestle him to get it back, making Nok-du shriek at where she was touching. (There is nothing there for her to touch Nok-du, lol). The two wrestles until she smacks him on the shoulder (LOL). The two bickers until he informed her that Lady Cheon let him stay in the room with her.

As much as she doesn’t like sharing room, Dong-joo warn him not to touch her things which he tells her he won’t and storm out. As they walk a distance apart on the same path, Nok-du recalls looking inside her sack to see the purple clothes, realizing that she’s the guy he encountered in jail.

As the two walks, they see Mr. Admin by the flowers and Dong-joo wonder what he’s doing. He tells them poetically about a beauty making Dong-joo think he was referring to her but instead, he was referring to Nok-du as he goes on his knees and give Nok-du a bouquet of flowers, telling Nok-du he is the one he was looking for, shocking them both. (HAHAHA, Mr. Admin had fallen in love at first sight at Nok-du. That is so hilarious, he is smitten).

Dong-joo scoff and tells them to have a nice conversation before walking off. Mr. Admin brags about his position and importance, introducing himself as Yeon-geun, the administrator of the Widow’s Village. He tries to hold Nok-du hand to hand him the flowers which Nok-du pull away. He walks away until an idea struck him that Yeon-geun manages the entire Widow’s Village.

Next thing we know, Nok-du has the map to the entire village courtesy of Yeon-geun, claiming that the map will help him become close with widow. Mr. Admin counters that he wants to be very close as well (referring to him and Nok-du) causing Nok-du run off. (This crush is going to be hilarious)

Nok-du walks around looking at the map until he sees a limping woman ahead. He recalls his master telling him that he can’t just resolve the issue by catching one or two of them but must follow closely and find their leader. He watches as she heads into a house/store and whisper that he has found her when Soon-nyeo whisper back that she has found him, startling him.

The Virtuous trio corners Nok-du and invite him to go for a bath so they can get to know each other better. Nokdu refuses and tells the ladies he is shy but his reason falls on deaf ears as Bok-nyeo carries him off to bath with them.

Nok-du continues to struggles as Bok-nyeo carries him until they run into Dong-joo. Nok-du tells them that he was going to go together with Dong-joo, hoping to use the excuse to escape bathing with the ladies. Bok-nyeo put him down and ask Dong-joo if they were going together. Dong-joo tells them that she was planning to go bath since her hair itches and join them, leaving Nok-du speechless. (Yeah, you are not getting out of this one for sure, lol).

At the pool, Nok-du pray to be rescue from the situation and tries to give reason to leave but shriek as every direction he turns to, he sees the women taking off their outer wear. Turning his back to them, he tells the women he has a skin disease therefore cannot bath. Bok-nyeo counter that it is a mineral spring pool so he would be healed from it. The trio tries to undress his top layer while he tries to cover himself.

Dong-joo walks up to him causing Nok-du to back away from her until he trips from his dress and falls into the water. He surfaces to see the women looking at his direction in surprises. Nok-du see part of his reveal shoulder and covers it up as Dong-joo turn away. Soon-nyeo grab a rock and aim it towards him.

Side Note: In the Widow’s Village, Nok-du is impersonating under the alias of Lady Kim but I am just going to continue to use his name in the recap instead of Lady Kim.

Nokdu Episode 1 Recap

The drama starts with a young man (Jeon Nok-du), diving into the water, fishing for food with his spear. As he re-surface with his spear, a little girl (Aeng-du) cheers for him, on land calling him husband.

The camera gives us a glimpse of his masculine body as he returns to shore (and thank you, PD-nim! You know how to captures us viewer’s attention with those chocolate abs) and then pans out to show they are on an island.

As he and Aeng-du sits on the beach, cooking the fish and abalone, he explains to Aeng-du that there is something he must do away from the island therefore cannot marry her, resulting in Aeng-du grabbing his wrist, refusing. (Those red marks. Little girl sure has strength, I would hate to piss her off, lol). She states that he had promise her father he would marry her which he counter that he had no choice if he were to learn martial arts from him.

As her drunken father stumbles towards them, Aeng-du informed him that Nok-du refuse to marry her causing Nok-du to backtrack saying she is too young at the time. His master counter that he is the youngest male on the island hence they’re “soulmate”. (There is no way he is getting out of this marriage, huh? Can’t blame her for wanting him as her husband. Girl got taste, lol).

A woman runs up to them, informing Nok-du that something bad has happen at his house causing him to rush off. A group of assassin faces off with his father and injured brother. Nok-du flies into the yard, to face off with the assassin. He fights with the assassin, killing all except one. He slashes the assassin’s leg, holding the sword to their neck, demanding to know who they are.

The assassin pulls out a sword to commit suicide however Nok-du disarm it, still demanding to know who they are, why did they come. But before he could ask more question, his father grabs him to let the assassin go.

His father holds him back, asking him to stop asking further. He tells him that they must leave the island, claiming that the assassin was after him because he had committed a crime. Nok-du looks around at the dead assassin and his injured brother, knowing that it was further from the truth.

“I know it’s because of me. The reason why we’re hiding out on this island, the reason they’re running away again, and the reason his mother pass away like that,” he tells his father.

Nok-du runs to his brother to check on his wound which his master said is not serious, informing Nok-du that those were skilled assassin, wondering where they came from. Nok-du asks his master to take care of his father and brother so he can go after them.

His master advises him that finding one or two will not solve the case as they were willing to die, that he must seek out the leader. Nok-du nod as he goes after the escape assassin. His injured brother crawls over to pull down the assassin mask and is surprised to see that it’s a woman. (And I sure like what I am seeing as he runs across the beach, giving chase to the assassin. PD-nim definitely wants to make sure we get to see plenty of skin’s from Nok-du. I approve! I approve! Show us more, lol)

Elsewhere, a young woman (Dong Dong-joo) disguised as a man is rushing to follow the King’s procession taking place on the street. Hiding on the side of a house, Dong-joo pulls out her hidden bow to assemble and shoot her arrow directly at the King, hitting him on the side. The guards rush over to her, their swords at her neck. Unflinching, Dong-joo continue to look on at the King’s direction as a tear, that she succeeded, falls down her face.

But all the swords by her neck slowly vanishes showing us that it was all just her imagination. The assassin disguised as a man dress in red limp by her and just as she pulls out her bow to assemble, Nok-du accidentally bump into her, trying to give chase to the limping man, causing Dong-joo to drop her bow.

Just as Nok-du glimpse down at the bow, Dong-joo pushes him away and quickly grab it back causing Nok-du to lose sight. Nok-du sigh and runs off to continue his search as Dong-joo see that her chance to assassinate the king is lost. As she tries to find another place, the King’s procession comes to a halt as an elder man throws a rock at the King, hitting him on the head on behalf of his dead son and grandson, accusing the King of wasting money and taking innocents lives to build his palace.

The soldier arrests the elder man and as it turns out, the injured King is a fake. The real King (King Gwanghae) had disguised himself as a captain on horseback and assuming there is accomplice, order his minister (Minister Heo) beside him to search and arrest. Seeing the situation at hand, Dong-joo discard her boy and arrow trying to flee. Nok-du sees his assassin and give chase to the shed but before he can catch the assassin, the guards stop him. Struggling to be free, Nok-du tells the guard there is someone hiding in the shed.

The guard comes over to the shed to open the door only for a noblewoman to emerge out of there. As the woman walk away, Nok-du realize it’s the assassin in disguised as he notices her limping away and tries to break free from the guard. He chases after the assassin and pull the cloak off to see her face, surprise that it is a woman before the guards catches up to him and arrest him, as the assassin walk away.

The guards end up arresting Dong-joo as well, placing her in the same jail cell as Nok-du. Seeing him, she grab him by the collar, “I lost him because of you.” She blames him for bumping into her, making her lose her chance and vice versa. The two bickered pulling in the age rank which Dong-joo claim she is older until the guard shout for them to be quiet.

As the night falls and everyone has fallen asleep, Dong-joo sneakily kicked the loose bar she noticed earlier to slide through to make her escape. However, her shoulder gets stuck and an awake Nok-du wonder if she is an accomplice, telling her that if they’re innocent, they would be release tomorrow to and if caught escaping, she would be killed.

Dong-joo insult him when she questions if he is naïve or just stupid causing Nok-du to ignore her and pretend to go back to sleep. Dong-joo denies and beg him to help before the guard wakes up and catches her trying to escape. Satisfied at forcing her to say, “Hyung-nim, please,” Nok-du pulled Dong-joo back in causing her to hit her head.

Nok-du lays back down and say that it is not a bad situation given that he is finally in Hanyang so he can find out himself, who he is.

The King bolt awake in cold sweat from his nightmare. Flashback shows his younger self suffocating/killing a baby in his arm.

In the cell, Nok-du awakes up to Dong-joo whimpering in her sleep, calling out to her mother. He pats her shoulder to calm her and cover her with his outer wear to keep her warm. However, as the morning comes, we see the two had curled up next to each other, Nok-du head on Dong-joo’s arm and Dong-joo has her leg over his, causing the two to jump in alarm at their proximity.

The guard comes to take them for questioning and as Dong-joo see other prisoner’s being tortured, it triggers her memories of family’s massacre. When the minister interrogates her reason for being the city and warned that she would die if she were to lie, causing Dong-joo to recalled her mother’s last word for her to live.

The guard pull out his sword and point it towards Dong-joo as the minister demand she answers the question. Seeing her nervousness, Nok-du sigh and take a stand (and I swoon at that little slo-mo), demanding to see the King who stop in his track as he is passing by. The minister question why he wants to see the King to which Nok-du tells him that a traitor would not take a rock to throw and public declare their grievance. He claims it is useless to arrest civilian to question based on an arrow that they do not know when and where it came from. Instead suggest that the King should flaunt his gracious nature or at least pretend to be so the people can be moved by him and pledge their loyalty to the kingdom.

Although the King scoff at its lowly method but still see it as a persuasive one thus ordering Minister Heo to follow through with Nok-du’s suggestion however to not let the elder man lived.

Free, Nok-du suggested as a thank you to buy him soup with rice when he suddenly sees a noblewoman cover in a blue cloak heading towards them. Seeing that she was reaching inside, thinking that she was pulling a weapon at them, Nok-du pushes Dong-joo aside, only for the woman to grab her handkerchief.

The two ends up bickering again until Dong-joo remember the letter she had left and runs off, warning Nok-du not to let her bump into him again or she would show him who’s boss.

Nok-du pulls out the cloak to see a crescent moon symbol and wonder where he should go to find it but then thinks that the assassin would be looking for him as well. Nok-du ends up staying at the inn as the assassin looks on.

He sits in his room, wondering when the assassin would come so he can get it over with and return home to his father and brother. He sits and remember when he and his brother were being punished. Their father reminding his brother to keep Nok-du away from boat. Defiantly, Nok-du question why he is not allowed to read, write, or row on boat as he wanted too which his father does not answer him. Later that night, he sees his mother tending to his brother’s leg.

The innkeeper comes with food and drink, offering it to him for free since a customer did not eat it.Shortly later, Nok-du stagger out of his room into the street in pain. The assassin follows him but before she can attack him, Nok-du collapse in front of two guards. One of the guards claims he is dead and tell the other one to run back and get their chief.

The assassin returns to the inn and check that Nok-du did drink all the alcohol in the bottle before she kills the innkeeper.

The guard return with the chief only to find the other guard unconscious with Nok-du nowhere to be found. The assassin through the forest with Nok-du following close behind.
